ADMISSION PROCESS IN IIM:
The common admission test called CAT which is conducted by IIMs is a competitive test for around 1250 graduate programs in management studies at the seven campuses, and is considered one of the most competitive exams in India, with a success rate of around one in two hundred. Now a day of around 400,000 students compete for mere 1350 seats (out of 1700total seats) in the IIMs (2008 survey).
Each IIMs conducts GD called group discussions and personal interviews to evaluate the shortlisted students after the CAT exam. Around 25% of seats are reserved for SC, ST and Tribes. On 1st May 2009, it was announced that here after CAT would be a computer based test. The average percentile of students admitted through those reserved categories is lesser than the percentile scores of the OBC students, which generally hovers around 99 percentile.
